Abandoned American Dream Park – in China

Sadly abandoned but in the 1990s, under President Jiang Zemin, China was developing rapidly. It was opening up to the whole world and was eager to build something new in its own country.

During this period came the emergence of several theme parks. However, most of them were closed within ten years of opening due to poor management.

In 1996, the construction of a theme park dedicated to the American Dream ended after a significant investment of $50 million. The park reproduced the architectural style of the early 20th century, some of which was copied from the western part of the United States.

Once, the American Dream Park was famous, but now it has turned into an abandoned space, absorbed by nature.

In the beginning, the park was actually very busy. However, it later turned out that the park was too far from potential visitors, and the tickets were very expensive for the average Chinese citizen. As a result, it closed in 2001.

Since then, it has remained abandoned, and parts of it have collapsed. The fake Mount Rushmore turned into a pile of scattered stones. However, some elements are still standing, and many buildings have retained their decorations that highlight the architectural style.

The park is a place for curious urban researchers, photographers, and airsoft teams who like to hide among the ruins. Graffiti artists have also left their marks on the walls.

Since the closure of the park, no cleaning teams have visited this place to clean out arcade machines or flooded kayaks. For some time, the park was guarded by several security guards.

Abandoned

In 2012, a decision was taken to demolish the park. Shortly before the park was scheduled for demolition, President Xi Jinping came up with his own slogan of the “Chinese Dream.” Many residents of Shanghai got to explore this abandoned place before its demolition through forbidden paths.

Now, the former American Dream Park is located in the center of the housing project, meaning it has become more difficult to find the entrance to the park. In addition, security and video surveillance appeared.

With China developing rapidly,  it is now becoming more challenging to find and access such remarkable places as the American Dream Park. Many thanks Ying Yin and please follow her at  www.behance.net
